In May, we welcomed some of our most valued friends and collaborators for Espionage Unveiled: Lessons for the Digital Age — an exclusive Humble event designed to spark conversation, connection, and reflection on the forces shaping how we lead and grow.
Over an intimate three-course lunch, hosted by Humble founder Ian Mason, we explored the intriguing intersection between historical espionage methods and modern digital security threats, led by a captivating keynote from Mike Pritchard, founder of the Australian Spy Museum.
From Cold War Tactics to Cyber Threats of Tomorrow
Mike shared a series of stories behind some of the objects from the largest private collection of spy craft artifacts and memorabilia in the southern hemisphere, including Cold War-era KGB surveillance equipment and working Enigma machines from the second World War. What unfolded, was far more than a history lesson—it was a compelling look at how intelligence-gathering strategies from the past remain highly prevalent in the digital security threats we face today.
The themes of strategy, resilience and calculated risk felt especially relevant for business owners navigating fast-moving digital environments. Even as tools and technology evolve, the need for awareness, adaptability and trust remains just as critical as ever.
The Power of Connection
This gathering wasn’t just about big ideas. It was also about the people who make our work possible. It offered a chance to reconnect with long-time supporters, meet new collaborators and reflect on what we’ve achieved together.
Humble has now directly supported more than 3,000 people and delivered our programs for over 150 cohorts of entrepreneurs and business owners. 72% of those we have supported are female, 48% culturally and linguistically diverse, and 6% Indigenous — figures that strongly reflect our values and those of our community, as much as the reach of our programs.
Events like this remind us that business growth and human connection go hand in hand. Real progress comes from open conversation, shared insight and the courage to learn from each other.
